Newport offers a well rounded list of events to enjoy this weekend.

Newport Irish Heritage Month has started and the events calendar certainly reflects it. Enjoy some good Irish laughs or participate in the Irish Bread Competition. Do you have the best recipe?


Where/When: on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 4-5 at 8 p.m.
Why Go: The Bit Players Comedy Improv Troupe will perform with an emphasis on Blarney and leprechauns.
Pricing: $15; $5 off if you mention Irish Heritage Month


Where/When:  on Saturday, Mar. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why Go: Learn about skills needed to work in the marine industry as well as career opportunities and green jobs in the field. Take advantage of the opportunity to talk to prospective employees.

Why Go: Used books for $1 with all proceeds going to community children’s centers, senior centers and schools. Refreshments and door prizes will also be offered.

Why Go: Five bands will perform for an event organized by Portsmouth High School Senior Sydney Manning as her Senior Project as a benefit for the Women & Infants Hospital Breast Health Center.
