Hazardous RI Weather Outlook In Advance Of Barry

Also, how does 108 degrees sound? Today begins the first of two weather hazards the National Weather Service is tracking for RI this week.

(NWS Boston)

The National Weather Service is warning of two potential hazards the rest of the week. But to get to the sweltering weekend, we first need to get through Barry.

A hazardous weather outlook was issued for all of Rhode Island in advance of the remnants of post-tropical cyclone Barry, which had been a hurricane tearing its way through the Southeastern U.S.

Southern New England can expect showers, downpours and scattered thunderstorms from noon through Wednesday evening, the NWS said. The storms Wednesday are expected be hit or miss.

Forecasters are looking at much of the same Thursday, with downpours that will drop 1-2 inches of rain per hour and strong winds. As with all such storms, the threat of floods and power outages exist.

When Barry finishes, things will start to heat up. A heat advisory is expected when temperatures get into the mid-to-high 90s, and the "real feel" heat indices get as high as 108 degrees on Saturday. The only place safe from the triple-digit heat indices will be the Cape and Islands.
