IYRS invites prospective students & families to join us for a day in Newport to experience the magic of the School of Boatbuilding & Restoration where talented craftspeople are immersed in a hands-on learning environment.

IYRS School of Boatbuilding & Restoration focuses on helping students master a time-honored craft based on the fundamentals of plank on frame construction and wooden boatbuilding. Gaining a fundamental understanding of the skills used by craftspeople can be an extraordinary beginning to mastering making techniques with any materials, traditional or modern.
IYRS students augment these capabilities with important career skills like project management, teamwork, problem-solving and critical thinking. Together, these skills prepare many graduates for careers in a broad range of fields. Throughout the 20-month program, with a 4-week internship, students receive training in the following areas:
