Jamestown Restaurant Inspections: No Mice, No Fly Paper: What's Going On Here?
No recent inspections for Chomist Charlie, Simpatico Jamestown or Bay Voyage, but last visits showed minor problems about infrastructure.

JAMESTOWN, RI — So Jamestown fared pretty well with restaurant inspectors from the state health department. Some of the popular spots, like Jamestown FISH, Simpatico Jamestown, Bay Voyage, and Chopmist Charlie haven't been inspected in the past seven months, but at last visit, they had minor issues, unrelated to food safety. For example, the inspectors didn't like the cement top landing to Chopmist Charlie's basement and thought Bay Voyage needed to dump obsolete equipment. Here are the reports from the past seven months.

Inspector Comments
The chlorine sanitizer concentration for the sanitizing cycle of the dishwasher at the bar was 0 ppm. Chlorine sanitizing solutions must be between 50-100 ppm. Person in charge to have machine serviced. Duck, ham, beef, pasta located in the refrigerator, was not marked with the date of preparation. Ready-to-eat potentially hazardous food, prepared in the establishment and held for more than 24 hours, must be marked with the date of preparation. Hamburgers and steak are served raw or undercooked (to the customer's request). A written consumer advisory on the pub menu is not provided to the consumer informing them of the significantly increased risk associated with certain vulnerable consumers eating such food in a raw or undercooked form. The cutting boards in the kitchen on the cold hold units are very scratched and scored. Cutting blocks and boards that are subject to scratching and scoring shall be resurfaced if they can no longer be effectively cleaned and sanitized, or discarded if they are not capable of being resurfaced. The facility is lacking test strips to measure the concentration of the chlorine sanitizing solution for the dishwasher in the kitchen. | |

An open employee's beverage container was observed in a food preparation area. Employees shall not drink from open beverage containers in order to prevent contamination of their hands, the container and exposed food. The drink was moved to a place where food preparation wasn't taking place.
The floors in the walk-in cooler have an accumulation of soil residue and/or food debris. The physical facilities shall be cleaned as often as necessary to keep them clean.
The deli slicer had an accumulation of food and debris. In addition, the ice machine has an accumulation of black residue. The food contact surfaces of equipment must be clean to sight and touch. The deli slicer was washed, rinsed, and sanitized during the inspection.

Soap was not available at the handsink in the dish room. Both the kitchen handsink and the dish room handsink were lacking paper towels. Hand sinks must be provided with a supply of hand cleaning liquid, powder, or bar soap. Handsinks shall have a drying provision available.
The can opener, the slicer, the dough hook, and the inside of the ice machine had an accumulation of food and other debris. The food contact surfaces of equipment must be clean to sight and touch. The slicer was disassembled and parts were placed to be washed, rinsed and sanitized with all the other equipment during the inspection.
Some of the portable cutting boards are very scratched and scored. Cutting blocks and boards that are subject to scratching and scoring shall be resurfaced if they can no longer be effectively cleaned and sanitized, or discarded if they are not capable of being resurfaced.
A hose is connected to the faucet at the mop sink. This faucet is lacking a backflow prevention device. An approved backflow prevention device is required in order to prevent backflow of a solid , liquid or gas contaminant into the water supply at each point of use at a food establishment.

The fliptop unit is in poor repair and cannot maintain food temperatures at 41 degrees F. or below. The ambient temperature of the prep unit is at 47 degrees F. The prep unit shall not be used to store potentially hazardous foods until it is serviced and can maintain food temperatures at 41 degrees F. or below. No potentially hazardous foods were observed in the cooler at the time of the inspection.
