July 2021 Was The 3rd-Wettest On Record In Providence
More than double the average amount of rain fell in Providence over the last month.
PROVIDENCE, RI — You're not imagining it, July was a very rainy month in Rhode Island. The state saw twice the average amount of rain usually recorded, making it the third-wettest on record.
On average, 2.91 inches of rain usually fall in Providence during July. Last month, the city saw 7.12 inches of rain, the National Weather Service said. In fact, Providence nearly exceeded its monthly rainfall average on July 9, when 2.05 inches of rainfall were recorded.
July was also slightly cooler than average at 72.9 degrees instead of the average 74.4. July 7 was the hottest day of the month, peaking at 92 degrees.

Meanwhile, July 3 and 31 tied for the coolest days of the month at 55 degrees. While both days were unseasonably chilly, neither broke the record coldest day of 48 degrees set in 1988.
