Juvenile Charged with Assaulting Mother who Took Away iPod

Police said the juvenile was using the iPod to communicate with a girl against his mother's wishes.

Newport Police charged a 16-year-old juvenile with simple assault Wednesday night for allegedly assaulting his mother after she took away his iPod.

Police said the mother reported that she took the iPod away from her son and he twisted her arm and scratched her during a struggle.

The juvenile reportedly had been dating a girl that his mother did not approve of and had been using the iPod to communicate with her.

The juvenile was taken into custody without incident and later released with a Family Court summons.

The Department of Children, Youth and Families was also notified.
