Las Vegas Man Caught Breaking into Gary's Handy Lunch

Police said Christopher M. Hackett, 23, kicked a window to gain entry into the restaurant.

Newport Police arrested a 23-year-old Las Vegas man and charged him with felony breaking and entering after he allegedly kicked his way into Gary’s Handy Lunch on Thames Street early Sunday morning.

Police said they got a report of someone kicking in windows to the restaurant at around 12:42 a.m.

An officer who responded to the scene reported seeing a man, later identified as Christopher M. Hackett, 23, of Las Vegas, climbing in through a broken window on the Pope Street side of the business.

Police surrounded the building and Hackett reportedly refused to answer police when they yelled through the broken window to ask what he was doing.

Hackett eventually came out on his own accord and was taken into custody without incident.

Hackett was arraigned and transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston after he was unable to post $2,500 surety bail.

He is due to return to Second Division District Court Monday.
