Lockdown Lifted At Rogers High School, No Intruder: Principal

The school was placed under lockdown "out of an abundance of caution" when a student reported seeing a suspicious person.

NEWPORT, RI — Rogers High School was briefly placed under lockdown Wednesday following reports of a person with a gun on campus. There was no threat and the situation has been cleared, according to the principal.

Principal Jared Vance told Patch that a student reported that they thought they saw a person with a gun around 12:30 p.m. The school was then placed on lockdown "out of an abundance of caution," he said, and police were called.

A deeper investigation revealed that the student was confused, Vance said. They saw a hall monitor and mistook them for an intruder, assuming the person was armed. The lockdown was lifted around 1:25 p.m.

Students were dismissed at the regular time.
