Maids of Distinction Cleans for Cancer Patients

Maids of Distinction Newport is taking the idea of hospitality to a whole new level with a new partnership with Cleaning For a Reason. The organization is dedicated to helping women going through cancer treatments by performing free cleaning services. Cleaning for a Reason, located in Lewisville, Texas was formed in May 2006 and connects cleaning services all over the nation with women in need.

Maids of Distinction will focus on women living on Aquidneck Island who are undergoing cancer treatments. They plan on providing them with free cleaning services on a regular basis. Presently,  their organization is working on publicizing the program and acquiring clientele.

“This is brand new for us and we want to get the word out,” said founder and owner Linda Kerr. “Our employees are really excited and we are open to helping as many people as we can.”

Kerr said she has always had a passion for hospitality. After graduating from Johnson and Whales University in 1987, Kerr started up Maids of Distinction in her hometown of Swansea, Mass.

“I put myself through college by cleaning houses,” said Kerr. “It has always been a passion of mine and I wanted to turn it into a business.”

Maids of Distinction Newport was started in 1998 after Kerr sold her Swansea business and her goal for the future is to keep expanding.

“I hope to create a franchise one day and be able to have the means to give back,” said Kerr.

This is not Kerr’s first endeavor into the donation world. Maids of Distinction Newport sponsors a pet up for adoption at the Potter League for Animals every month.

“I love to do good. It’s a great feeling,” Kerr said. “If I can help, I will.”
