Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Woman at Bus Stop
Police said the incident occurred at the bus stop in front of City Hall on Broadway.

Newport police charged a 44-year-old Newport man with second-degree sexual assault early Wednesday for allegedly fondling a woman who had passed out at the bus stop in front of City Hall on Broadway.
Police said witnesses saw John Paul Young, of 15 Meeting St., Newport, put his hands down the pants of a woman who was sitting next to him at the bus stop.
Police arrived and found Young next to the woman, who was unresponsive, with his hand on her leg, according to a police report.

When asked if he knew who the female was, Young reportedly said “I have no idea who she is.”
Young was taken into custody where he later said he had been drinking with the victim when she passed out. He reportedly admitted to touching her breasts but denied ever putting his hand down her pants.

The victim was transported to the hospital.
