Metered Parking in Newport Begins May 1

Metered parking season begins in Newport on May 1 and will last until Oct. 31.

The meters run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, including weekends and holidays.

The fee for parking in a metered space is $1.25 per hour in increments of twenty-five cents. The fee for the Memorial Blvd. meters at Easton’s Beach is $2.00 per hour. All city meters accept credit cards or coins.

The Pay & Display units located at the Touro St. Lot and Long Wharf Lot and a Pay-by-Plate unit located on Narragansett Ave. near the Forty Steps, accept credit cards, bills and coins. The rate at the Touro St. and Long Wharf lots and Narragansett Ave. is $1.25 per hour in 1 hour increments. A Resident sticker does not permit residents to park for free at metered spaces.

The Gateway Visitor’s Center Parking Lot will be open daily from 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM. The Mary St. Parking Lot will be open Sunday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM and Friday and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 AM. The basic rate is $2.00 for the first one-half hour and $1.50 for each half-hour thereafter. City residents displaying a valid resident sticker are entitled to up to three (3) hours of continuous parking once per day in the Gateway and Mary St. lots.

The Residential Parking Program is in effect from May 1 through October 1. Parking is restricted in designated areas to vehicles displaying residential permits, a general visitor pass or temporary residential parking permit. Resident Stickers are available in the Collections Office at City Hall. Signage in each area will detail the parking restrictions for that area.
