New Traffic Pattern Coming To Spring Street In Newport
The city will be testing a new traffic pattern near the proposed site for a park.
NEWPORT, RI — Changes are coming to Spring Street in Newport. Starting Wednesday, a new test traffic pattern will go into place, closing Court House Street to traffic.
The Historic Spring Leadership Committee has requested the traffic pattern change as it works to build a new park in the area new Newport's historic founding fresh water spring, city officials said in a release. Before a final decision is made, the traffic pattern will be tested until October 15.
Signs will posted in the area to direct drivers on Spring Street and Bellevue Avenue. To access Washington Square and Farewell Street, drivers can take Stone Street, which will become a one-way from Spring Street to Broadway.

City officials encouraged drivers heading west over the Newport Bridge to take Memorial Boulevard to America's Cup Boulevard.
The City Council voted to test the traffic pattern earlier in the summer to see if it will be effective in the long term. Newport residents are encouraged to reach out to their councilor to share their opinions of the new pattern.
