Is Newport Better than Annapolis? Coastal Living Wants to Know

The magazine has launched a poll pitting two "nautical heavyweights" against each other.

Rhode Island’s crown jewel city, Newport, shares much with Annapolis, Maryland’s capital city.

They both are sailing towns stepped in Colonial American history with vibrant arts and culture scenes. They each have a host of top-tier restaurants with world-class chefs. Both have places for sailors to wet their whistles. Each has plenty to do on land as well as at sea.

So which is better? That’s the question Coastal Living is asking its readers in their most-recent “Double Take” series.

There are five categories, each with its own vote. There’s the general question — which town is a better sailing town?

Readers can then pick between the Annapolis Cup annual spring croquet match or the Newport International Polo Series for things to do on land.

There’s the “Sailor’s Hangout” category, giving the option of Boatyard Bar & Grill in Annapolis or the International Yacht & Athletic Club in Newport.

Pick a cocktail from a Drunken Sailor a few states away or one from the Revolving Door here in the City-by-the-Sea with their 50 rums.

And when it comes to a “Sweet Dish,” do you pick Iron Rooster All Day near the Chesapeake Bay or Tallulah on Thames right here?
