Newport Community Squash Junior Clinics 2014-2015
The Newport Community Squash Junior Clinics 2014-2015 will introduce first-time middle-school-age players to the game and will help those players who attended last year’s clinics to advance their skills. Players sign up for 2 classes per week (M&W or T&Th), and then we’ll group players according to age and skill to maximize instruction and fun.
In addition to learning to properly grip and swing the racket on both the forehand and the backhand, players will learn the basic rules of squash, how to keep score, how to serve and return serve, how to rally, and how to move efficiently about the court. We’ll explain the basic strategies of the game (Hit it deep!), teach them to referee, and introduce them to competitive play in an atmosphere that stresses safety, fairness, sportsmanship, and respect for your opponent as well as for the game.

Time in the clinics will be devoted first to group drilling and practice, then to group play so that the players will both learn the game as well as acquire like-minded friends with whom to continue playing and practicing.
An added feature of the 2014-2015 clinics is that all players will participate in a series of NCS Junior Box Leagues; we’ll place 4 or 5 players in each box, and then the players schedule these friendly matches at mutually convenient times outside of the regular clinic sessions. Every clinic player will have a chance to play a friendly match with every other player in the clinics.

The clinics run in 2 sessions, Oct-Nov-Dec and Jan-Feb-March. The players register for 2 classes per week (M&W or T&Th), then we arrange them by age and skill into groups that play on both courts from 4 pm to 4:45 pm or from 4:45 pm till 5:30 pm. We limit the number of players to 4 per court to maximize individual instruction.
