Newport Gets Today Show Nod as a Christmas Getaway

On the heels of Travel and Leisure listing Newport as one of the best holiday getaways in the United States, the City-by-the-Sea was featured, albeit briefly, during a Today Show segment about hot holiday travel deals on Monday morning.

Travel and Leisure’s Jackie Gifford told Today Show viewers that Newport “does it up well” during the holidays, noting the local effort to use only white holiday lights ”to conjure up that old fashioned candlelit vibe.” There’s Christmas at the mansions, which are all decked out for the holidays. And she mentioned rooms at the Hyatt Regency Newport go for just $109 per night this time of year.

“Newport’s great year round,” said Today Show Host Willie Geist.

Newport was one of six places mentioned during the four-and-a-half bit, joining San Diego, Calif.; Green Mt. Falls, Colo.; St. Augustine, Fla.; Kohler, Wi.; and San Antonio, Tx.

What wasn’t mentioned during the bit was all there is to do in Newport during the holiday season.
