Discover the early history of Newport’s people of color, enslaved and free. This tour looks at the places where slaves lived and labored, including the Wanton-Lyman-Hazard House, along with locations where free blacks built their enterprises and supported a new local industry. It concludes in the country’s oldest intact African-American graveyard, “God’s Little Acre.”

Reservations required as space is limited, call 401.841.8770. Tours cost $15 per person, $10 Newport Historical Society members and active duty military with ID, and leave from the Brick Market Museum & Shop. Newport History Tours is a partnership between the Newport Restoration Foundation and Newport Historical Society.
