
The city of Newport is accepting applications for new police officers.
To qualify, you must be at least 21, have a high school diploma or GED and a driver’s license.
The official application period is April 6 to April 24.

To apply, a complete application must be submitted to the Human Resources Administrator at Newport City Hall, 43 Broadway, no later than 4 p.m. on Friday April 24.
The salary for a probationary police officer is $47,681 per year and a permanent police officer can earn between $51,255 and $63,673 per year.

There is a $20 testing fee due by 4 p.m. on April 24 along with the application.
Qualified candidates are expected to pass a physical agility exam, a written exam and be interviewed by an oral board. An extensive background check will also be performed.
