Newport Playgrounds To Reopen
Barriers will be removed and swingsets will be re-installed starting this week.
NEWPORT, RI — Newport will begin a phased reopening of city playgrounds starting later this week. Starting Wednesday, city workers will start re-installing swing sets and removing barriers.
The equipment, which includes the FitLot in Aquidneck Park, will not be sterilized, and residents are asked to take extra precautions when using them, including maintaining at least 6 feet of distance between themselves and others, using hand sanitizer before and after use, staying home if at all sick, wearing a mask and avoiding use if there is a crowd t the playground.
Because of summer camp protocols, the Vernon Avenue and Aquidneck Park playgrounds will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Aug. 21. Basketball courts are also closed until further notice.
