Newport Police Raid House At 4 Champlin Place

Police allege they found drugs in the basement.

NEWPORT, RI — Neighbor's complaints have led police to a basement narcotics store and marijuana grow, Newport police said Wednesday. This morning at 6 a.m., on the authority of a search warrant, police raided 4 Champlin Place. In the basement, detectives found 65 grams of cocaine and a two-room grow facility containing 26 marijuana plants. Also located inside the residence, they found a digital scale and numerous items used to package narcotics for sale.

Anthony Cooper, 55, of 4 Champlin Place, was charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute and Maintaining a Common Nuisance for allowing the sale of narcotics from his

residence. Both charges are felonies, and Cooper was being held at the Adult Correctional Institutions until he
is arraigned in Newport Superior Court.
