NEWPORT, RI — The Newport Police Department released a new limited edition St. Patrick's Day patch for sale to help promote youth traffic safety.

Police said offers in Newport will wear the patches on their uniforms throughout March.

They are also selling the patches for $14 each. Police said proceeds from the patch sales will go to Youth Driven.

Youth Driven is a nonprofit that works to create youth traffic safety and leadership programs. It provides Rhode Island children with information, skills and support necessary to organize events and activities that support traffic safety efforts within their communities.

Safety campaigns target distracted driving, impaired driving and speeding, as well as alcohol and drug free prevention strategies.
