Newport to host NECBL Hall of Fame Induction Nov. 30
Red Sox pitchers Craig Breslow and Andrew Bailey, Rangers closer Joe Nathan, Indians manager Terry Francona among attendees
NEWPORT, R.I. – Boston Red Sox pitchers Craig Breslow and Andrew Bailey, along with Texas Rangers closer Joe Nathan, will highlight the NECBL Hall of Fame Tribute Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Hyatt Regency in Newport. The three alumni of one of the nation’s premier summer collegiate baseball leagues will be inducted into the league’s second Hall of Fame class.
Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona, recently named American League Manager of the Year, will also be in attendance to receive the NECBL “Stand-Up Guy Award.”
The induction is part of a star-studded night that will celebrate the players’ achievements and New England baseball. Nathan played during the NECBL’s inaugural season in 1994, Breslow in 1999, and Bailey donned a league uniform in 2004.
Also being inducted are three former league officers, including Mario Tiani, a former general manager and league commissioner; Richard Rossiter, a former league executive officer who served in numerous capacities; and Joel Cooney, who is posthumously being honored for his long-time service to the NECBL.
The New England Collegiate Baseball will also honor two outstanding college coaches who are retiring after the 2014 season, as well as recognizing Bryant, Franklin Pierce and Southern Maine for being the best New England baseball program in their NCAA Division during 2013.
The Hall of Fame induction will take place in Newport, R.I. from 5 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Hyatt Regency on Goat Island. A cocktail hour and silent auction begins at 5 p.m. The induction and dinner is open to the public, with tickets priced at $100 and available for purchase at necbl.com.
Discounted hotel rooms, at the rate of $129 a night, can be reserved at the Hyatt by calling (401) 851-1234.
The Newport Gulls are proud to welcome the entire NECBL to the City by the Sea later this month for what’s sure to be a memorable event. Any media outlets requesting access to the event or interview time should contact the Newport Gulls or the NECBL to request credentials in advance.
