NEWPORT, RI — Easton's Beach is opened for swimming again Friday, the Rhode Island Department of Health said Thursday.

Health officials closed the Newport beach Thursday because of high levels of bacteria in the water.

The closure came just one day after the department recommended closing four other Rhode Island beaches for high bacteria: Grinnell's Beach and Fogland Beach in Tiverton, Bonnet Shores in Narragansett and the Kent County YMCA Lower Pond in Warwick. Irons Homestead in Chepachet and Dyer Woods Campground in Foster are also closed.
