Obituary: Lucille E. Galvin, 95

Lucille E. (Ryan) Galvin, 95, of Bedlow Avenue, Newport, RI, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 6, 2015, with her loving family at her side. She was the wife of the late John J. Galvin.

Born on April 26, 1919 in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Catherine L. Ryan.

Lucille was a graduate of Rogers High School and was instrumental in planning reunions. Lucille had an alert mind, was a member of the Redwood Library and loved to read, often a book a week. She loved to discuss current topics and events and was an avid fan of the Celtics, Patriots and Red Sox. She was also a source of wisdom and advice to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lucille will be remembered for her kindness, her good cheer, and her generosity, but above all, her devotion to her family.

She is survived by her children, John J. (Maria) Galvin, Jr., Patricia (Edward) Galvin Marchetti, Robert “Terry” Galvin, B. Christopher (Mary Jane) Galvin, Neil P. (Lynn) Galvin, Richard A. (Kathleen) Galvin, and David A. (the late, Anne) Galvin; nineteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother and sisters, Milton E. Ryan, Kathryn L. Miranda and Norma A. Smith.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 9:00 am from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Joseph Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue. Newport, RI. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown, RI.
