Obituary: Manuel Joseph Baptista, 95, Mechanic

Manuel Joseph Baptista, 95, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Heatherwood Nursing Home in Newport, RI.
Born in Newport, RI on July 14, 1918 to the late John and Anina (Lema) Baptista, he was the husband of late Marion Rose Baptista.
Manuel worked most of his life as a mechanic and spent his later years working for Newport Electric. He was a caring loving parent, grandparent, and great grandparent whose primary goal was the happiness and security of his family. He was a member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Cape Verdean Club of Newport.

Manuel is survived by his children, Tina Vieira Shultz and husband Tony Shultz of Portsmouth, and Joseph Baptista and wife Ann Baptista of Middletown; grandchildren Catherine Vieira Linares and husband Richard Linares of Dudley, NC, Christopher Vieira and wife Melissa Vieira of Goldsboro, NC. He is also survived by his great- grandchildren; Danielle Linares, Richard Linares, Alexandra Vieira, and Christopher Vieira.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street in Newport, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 am on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Church, corner of Broadway and Mann Avenue in Newport. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery, Brown’s Lane in Middletown.
