Obituary: Mary (Mae) Rose (Nowak) Bally

Mary (Mae) Rose (Nowak) Bally, of Newport passed on Monday, September 8, 2014 peacefully in her sleep at the John Clarke Nursing Home Middletown, RI.

A resident of Newport since 1956, Mae is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years Fred D. Bally of Newport.

Born in Fall River, MA she was daughter of Paul Nowak and Jennie (Radzik) Nowak. She is survived by her sisters Emily Przewoznik of Fall River, MA, and Celia Baker of Wakefield, RI; and brothers Joseph Nowak of Hingham, MA, John Nowak of Berlin NJ. Numerous nieces and nephews survive her.

Mae is predeceased by her brothers, Walter, Edward and Frederick Nowak and a sister Sophie Bouffard.

She was a communicant at St. Joseph’s Church, Newport, RI and a member of the St. Stanislaus Senior Club in Fall River, MA.

She was a seamstress at Royal Garment Company in Fall River, MA, and a lifelong member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Mae enjoyed travelling with her husband and gardening around her home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mae’s memory may be made to the St. Joseph’s Church Soup Kitchen, 5 Mann Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.

Visiting hours will be held prior to the Funeral Mass beginning at 8:30 am on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, corner of Mann Ave & Broadway, 10 am on Thursday, September 11.
