Rocky Hill students have unique opportunities to use the garden, waterfront and other areas of campus as outdoor classroom spaces. The Middle School's "Enviroweek" takes place exclusively outside with learning done on and around the water.  Students in grade 7 even get the chance to conduct "Oil-Spill Containment lab experiments" right on the river.  They research oil spills and clean up strategies, create a containment plan, and then put their ideas and hypotheses to the test using organically-based, oil-spill simulating liquids (See "green oil-spill" picture above) Â
And last week, fifth grade science and ninth grade Ancient & Medieval History students were also able to leverage the School's maritime setting to expand their learning.
These outdoor classroom experiences reinforce Rocky Hill School's focus on teaching it's students about environmental conservation and Stewardship so they can learn to become citizens focused on safeguarding our natural resources both locally and globally.Â
