Patch Picks: Five Great Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

Here are some of the best bets to celebrate the Irish this St. Patrick's Day.

  1. Mass in honor of St. Patrick- will hold a Catholic mass in honor of St. Patrick at 8 a.m.
  2. Hibernian of the Year Awards- Celebrate honoree Bill Cardinal and enjoy the Nevin Academy Step Dancers, food and a cash bar for $25.
  3. Irish Music at the Officer’s Club- Get in the spirit with Irish music performed by The Patchy Caubeens at the Officer’s Club on the Newport Naval Base from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Available only to families with base access.
  4. Traditional Irish Grub- Dig into a Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner at or try their Guiness Irish Stew or Braised Lamb Shepherd’s Pie available just for St. Patrick’s Day.
  5.  “Hold the Salt on the Corned Beef and Cabbage”- Take in some laughs with an Irish twist with this sketch comedy performed at the at 8 p.m.
