Pell Construction Costs Higher Than Anticipated, School Officials Say
School officials announced incoming bids were above what they had anticipated during the budgeting process.
The Pell Building Committee meeting that was scheduled for this afternoon, Tuesday, Oct. 18, has been cancelled following an announcement from school officials that construction bids have come in
Superintendent John H. Ambrogi announced that the incoming bids were about 20 percent above construction cost estimates.
A release from Newport Public Schools said HMFH architects are currently regrouping to analyze the data.

There has been no announcement yet of a rescheduled meeting. The committee was slated to discuss demolition updates, review the general contractor bids, prioritize add alternatives and make recommendations for the school committee.
