Pennfield School Awards Teaching Excellence Prize
Newport Native Mathew Bottone received the award for inspiring academic excellence.

Science teacher and coordinator of student life, Mathew Bottone, was awarded the 2011 Diman Teaching Excellence Prize for best inspiring students to pursue academic excellence with joy and boundless enthusiasm.
The prize is named in honor of Rev. John Hugh Diman, a lifelong educator dedicated to the children of Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts and founder of Diman Vocational School in Fall River, St. George’s School, and Portsmouth Abbey School.
Mathew Bottone lives in Newport and has taught Upper School science at Pennfield School since 1997. He received the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence in 2007.
