Police said Smith was wanted by Family Court for a body attachment and two Second Division District Court warrants -- one for failing to appear for an ability to pay conference and another for failing to appear for a sentencing violation hearing conference.
Police said they arrested Smith after investigating a complaint about an unreturned rental car shortly before midnight.
Smith allegedly was using the car rented by a Newport woman and hadn’t returned when he promised.
After looking for Smith at several locations, he eventually was found in a parking lot behind an apartment building on Ranger Road at around 12:50 a.m.
He was held overnight for arraignment in court Friday morning.
