Providence Man Charged with DUI; Passenger Also Charged

Police stopped the driver after he was driving the wrong way on Thames Street, a one-way street.

Police charged Larios Alonzo Maynor, 23, of 49 Bowdoin St., Providence, with driving under the influence early Monday morning.

Police said Maynor was stopped after driving the wrong way on Thames Street near Perry Mill Wharf. A nearby Newport police officer saw the traffic infraction pulled him over.

Once stopped, police said Maynor smelled like alcohol and failed a field sobriety test at the scene.

He later registered a .158 blood alcohol reading into two preliminary breath tests at police headquarters.

Police said Maynor told officers that he had three beers while at a local tavern.

He was later released with a Feb. 25 District Court summons.

Police also charged a passenger, Esli Eduardo Natareno Reyes, 20, of 131 Hudson St., Providence, with possession of alcohol as a minor.

Reyes reportedly was intoxicated as well, police said, and a check of his identification showed he was under 21.

Police said Reyes registered a blood alcohol reading of .257 at the scene.

He was taken into custody without incident and was later released with a Feb. 23 District Court date.
