Race on Over, the 16th Annual Seaside Gala, Held

The triple crown inspired event benefitted health and human services programs of East Bay Community Action Program

“Race on Over” was the theme of East Bay Community Action Program’s (EBCAP) 16th Annual Seaside Gala held on June 13th at Castle Hill Inn in Newport. EBCAP provides Primary, Behavioral and Dental Health Services along with a wide range of human services to more than 30,000 residents of Rhode Island’s east bay including: East Providence, Barrington, Warren, Bristol, Little Compton, Tiverton, Portsmouth, Middletown, Newport and Jamestown.

The Honorable Gina M. Raimondo, Governor, State of Rhode Island, served as the Honorary Chair for the event, and Neighborhood Health Plan of RI was the Leading Sponsor. Governor Raimondo was also the recipient of the organization’s 2019 Public Service Award.

Receiving 2019 Vision Awards for helping EBCAP in an outstanding way were: Sergeant Jason Canario of the Warren, RI Police Department; Tyler Pare, Roger Williams University Law Student (‘19); and community newspaper, Newport This Week.

The paddle-raise, led by EBCAP Board Member Julie Chalue, resulted in more than $9,000 in donations for EBCAP’s three food pantries. The pantries provide individuals and families in need throughout the East Bay with nutritious food.

Entertainment was provided by the 19-piece Larry Brown Swinglane Orchestra as they greeted guests with old favorites and horseracing inspired tunes. Colorful floral arrangements were provided by Water’s Edge Flowers of Newport.

For the past sixteen years the annual Seaside Galas have been EBCAP’s primary fundraising event. EBCAP is a private, non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation.
