The Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund is Available to Those in Temporary Crisis and in Need of Assistance
The Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund is available to families in temporary crisis who are not eligible for federal or state funds.
PROVIDENCE, RI, January 9, 2015 -- The Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund (GNEF) announces that its twenty-ninth annual “Warm Thy Neighbor” campaign is now well underway and funds are available for those households in temporary crisis and in need of assistant with the payment of their energy bills. The Good Neighbor Energy Fund’s 2014-15 campaign goal is to raise $500,000 and help 1,250 families.
The Fund is the last resort for families who have not qualified for federal and state assistance programs. The GNEF campaign relies on the generosity of its energy sponsors, Rhode Islanders and local corporations for support. The GNEF’s administrator is The Salvation Army and its sponsoring energy companies are Dominion Resources, Entergy RISEC, National Grid, Pascoag Utility District, Petro Home Services and TransCanada’s Ocean State Power.
Yellow donation envelopes are enclosed with energy bills through March to make it easy for anyone to make a donation. Those interested in donating to the Fund can also text “WARM” to 41444 on their mobile phone, send a check payable to “Good Neighbor” to The Salvation Army, 34 Commercial Street, Cranston, RI 02905 or visit www.rhodeislandgoodneighbor.org. The Salvation Army determines households who qualify based on specific income and family member guidelines

Since its establishment in 1986, the Good Neighbor Energy Fund has raised over $12.3 million and helped over 42,750 families in need of temporary energy assistance.
