Registration for the walk is free and will commence at 9:00am in parking lot “J”. The event will kick off rain or shine at 10:00am. The walk will take participants through the lovely Rhode Island College campus and the historic Fruit Hill section of North Providence. This year’s event will feature free children’s activities such as face painting, a photo booth and a prize for the best Halloween Costume! Refreshments will also be provided by Uncle Tony’s Pizza and Pasta Restaurant as well as Dunkin Donuts. Rhode Island icon, Tony the Dancing Cop, will lead the Walk alongside Honorary Chair Person, Gene Valicenti of WJAR NBC10 and News Talk Radio 630 WPRO AM.

Michael F. Sabitoni, President of the Rhode Island Building and Construction Trades Council and Business Manager of the Rhode Island Laborers’ District Council, is serving as the Walk’s Co-Chair for the fourth year in a row. “It is very inspiring to see so many individuals from the Building Trades come out to support this very worthwhile organization,” expressed Mr. Sabitoni. “Our dedicated tradesmen and women in the labor and union movement know the importance of volunteering and giving back to the community. Collectively we know we can make a big impact in the support of such a vital organization like the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State. I am also extremely proud and grateful to our many Signatory Contractors who sponsor this Walk. It’s always a great event and lots of fun for the whole family!”

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Currently there are over 200 children on the waiting list, most of whom are boys, waiting for someone to positively impact their lives. Heather Potter, Program Director at BBBSOS had this to say, “Mentoring is more than just being a child’s friend. It’s being the person who allows them to see the light in their life, giving them higher aspirations, greater educational success and higher self esteem.”
