RI Named 6th-Best State In The US For Working Dads: WalletHub
The personal finance website compared factors including health, child care, work-life balance and more.
Rhode Island is among the best states in the county for working dads, according to a new study from WalletHub. The personal finance website weighed several factors to determine the ranking, including economic and social well-being, work-life balance, child care and health.
Neighboring Massachusetts topped the list, earning top marks for work-life balance and child care. Rhode Island ranked sixth overall in the country. Here's a look at how the state fared in each category:

"Traditionally, dads have been the "breadwinners" and moms have been the "caregivers". Nowadays, though, more fathers want to be active parents and push back against this old-fashioned idea," said Nicholas Salter, an assistant professor at Hofstra University. "Although men are advantaged in many ways when it comes to the workplace, as fathers they are often disadvantaged if they want to be active parents in a way that may impact their work."

To determine each state's total score out of 100 possible points, WalletHub compared factors within in category, such as parental leave policies, unemployment rates, average length of the work day and more. While Rhode Island ranked around average in several categories, including the percent of physically active men and quality of day care, it fared very well in the uninsured rate and length of the work day, ranking seventh and second, respectively.
