RI Weather: Coastal Flooding, Thunderstorms

Narragansett Bay is expected to get the brunt of the flood waters, which could create a storm surge of about a foot.

NEWPORT, RI — Be careful near Rhode Island shores Saturday and Sunday. The National Weather Service has put a coastal flood advisory in effect for Southeast Providence, Eastern Kent, Bristol, Washington, and Newport counties.

Heavy rain, along with strong onshore winds and high tides, may cause minor coastal flooding. Narragansett Bay is expected to get the brunt of the flood waters, which could create a storm surge of about a foot. Thunderstorms are also possible.

Saturday - Showers, with thunderstorms possible after 4 p.m. High of 65. Wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Saturday night - Showers likely before 2 a.m. Patchy fog and cloudy with a low of 52. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Sunday - Showers before 2 p.m. Cloudy with a high of 60. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Sunday night - Chance of rain between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Mostly cloudy with a low of 50. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Monday - Chance of showers before 2 p.m., then a chance of thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. More showers possible after 3 p.m. Cloudy, with a high of 60. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Monday night - A chance of rain before 4 a.m. Mostly cloudy with a low of 40. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
