RI Weather: Severe Thunderstorms Possible On First 80-Degree Day

Severe thunderstorms and even hail are possible throughout the late afternoon and evening hours.

What's shaping up to be the first summery day of 2019 could also see some severe thunderstorms in Rhode Island, throughout late Monday afternoon and evening. A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for all of Rhode Island for the possibility of severe thunderstorms, mainly from Boston to Providence. High winds, heavy rain and even hail are possible during the evening hours, leading to the possibility of power outages throughout the state.

Overnight, torrential rain and thunderstorms moved throughout the state, leading to a cooler, damp start to what is shaping up to be Rhode Island's first 80-degree day of 2019. The National Weather Service said the average first 80-degree day is May 4; today is May 20.
