RI Weather: Worst Yet To Come, Wind Chill To Dip To 15 Below Zero

The snow wasn't so bad after all, but forecasters said wind chills of 15 to 30 degrees below zero will result in a deep freeze.

The snow has started to move out, being replaced by what is expected to be a swath of sleet, ice and rain. But the most dangerous part of the weather could come later tonight when biting wind chills result in a flash freeze.

The National Weather Service said wind chills could fall between 15 and 30 below zero; that means it would feel like negative-15 to negative-30 degrees. The temperatures themselves are expected to fall rapidly throughout the day. The major dip is expected after the sun goes down and into Monday morning. After all the precipitation - especially rain - that falls Sunday, the morning commute could be a treacherous one.

There is a wind chill advisory for the northern part of Rhode Island be in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday to noon Monday. The NWS said "temperatures rise above freezing this morning, but this will be followed by a flash freeze between noon and 5 pm."

Sunday's storm, which was initially expected to drop a healthy portion of snow in Rhode Island and 1-2 feet in Massachusetts, didn't come close to the first forecasts. As temperatures continued to rise, forecasters called for more rain and sleet in lieu of snow. Still, the region saw by far more snow than it has all winter.
