The Rogers High football season officially kicks off Friday night, with the team taking on La Salle Academy at 7 p.m. at Toppa Field. La Salle's no easy team to beat—the Vikings lost 14-0 to the Providence-based school in 2009. But Rogers may be better positioned this year to put up a fight. Here's a look at what to expect.

Defense: For the Rogers defense, last year's game against La Salle showed how good it can be. La Salle is a very high powered offense, but was only held to 14 points against the Vikings. Like the offense, the defense returns most of their starters, which should make for another defensive game between the two teams.
Offense: Rogers needs to be able to run the ball in order to take pressure off of the passing game. This should not be a problem, considering that running back is the position with most depth, with starters Christian Cancel and Christian Savage anchoring the offense.
Although in 2009 the offense did not muster many points, Rogers returns 7 starters, which should make the offense more efficient and execute better. Last year, La Salle shut out Rogers 14-0 in a close game, so if Rogers can execute their offense better, it should make for a great competitive game.
