Second Park N' Bike Spot to Open in YMCA Parking Lot

Here's another reason to drive less and bike more on Aquidneck Island.

Bike Newport and the Newport County YMCA have teamed up to expand the Park N’ Bike program, which encourages people to leave their cars behind and opt to tool around on a bicycle instead.

The Newport County YMCA, located at 792 Valley Road in Middletown, has agreed to offer a section of its parking lot to be the second Park N’ Bike location.

The first location is at Bike Newport’s headquarters at 437 Broadway, and it’s free, though donations are accepted.

The first-come, first-served park-at-your-own-risk lots offer people a chance to drive into Newport (and now Middletown) and then switch to a bike to check out one of the countless destinations across Newport and Aquidneck Island.

“There are popular destinations all over Newport – from Miantonomi Park and the historic Point neighborhood at the north, to Fort Adams and the scenic Ocean Drive at the south, with dozens of parks, shops, galleries, and museums in between,” according to Bike Newport’s Park N’ Bike information page. “Consider parking your car before you get into the heart of town and into one of our legendary traffic jams. You can wind your way in using our many scenic neighborhoods and boulevards.”

Bike Newport announced the new lot opening at the YMCA on its Facebook page. At the same time, they gave a shoutout to Mike MIller, CEO of the Newport County YMCA (pictured above).

The lot will open this May.
