Simpler College Financial Aid Applications Online Oct. 1
U.S. Sen. Jack Reed is reminding families with college bound students the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is available, Oct. 1.

NEWPORT, RI—It just became easier to unlock federal dollars to help pay for college, according to U.S. Sen. Jack Reed.
Families can apply for aid three months earlier, use the past year tax return to do so and not worry about updating the application with their 2016 tax information.
Reed today announced the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is online Oct. 1.

"I have long advocated for simplifying the FAFSA process," he wrote in an e-mail message. "Last year I joined my Senate colleagues in urging the Department of Education to allow families to apply earlier, use prior year tax and financial information, and expedite the aid notification system to help students make more informed decisions."
