St. Michael's Students Clean Up Miantonomi Park

The students partnered up with Katherine Field and Associations for a clean up of the park.

As part of the fight for a clean environment, and in honor of Earth Day, a locally based landscape architecture firm and a local school teamed up to do their part and to give something back to nature.

Eight members of , led by President Kate Field, joined two sixth grade classes from and faculty members Bob Tavares, Lauren Magruder and Mimi Carrellas. Their target: Miantinomi Park.

Before the clean up began, Kate Field, a St. Michael's graduate, gave an overview of Earth Day and pointed out that what they were doing was helping to "make the earth less of a trashcan."

After a lot of hard work and a certain amount of fun, one group was spotted leading a "pet" log around on a leash. The group collected 16 bags of trash amounting to 80 pounds of junk polluting the local environment.

Just think what could be done if very school and every firm in every town undertook a similar project. The world would be a better place.
