St. Michael's Announces "Fakes and Forgeries" Winners
Three students earned Best in Show for the exhibit.
Fifth-graders atpresented their best handy-work at their annaul exhibit. The exhibit featured "forgeries" of several twentieth century masters. The project began in late February with a school trip to the similar show. Students saw the famous works and read Masterpiece, by German artist Albrecht Dürer, in preparation for creating their own copycat pieces.
Each student seleted an artist to research and one of their works to replicate. Bob Tavares, Division Head at St. Michael's, called the result "spectacular." The replicas were displayed in the school's library last week, where attendees were invited to vote for their favoirite painting. Best in Show went to Aspen Majewski for his rendition of Roy Lichtenstein's, "Blam;" Brianna Segerson for her forgery of Juan Miró’s “The Garden;” and Tia DelGuidice for her reproduction on Peter Hussey's "Secret Garden."
