St. Michael's Goes to The Dogs
A visitor from the Potter League for Animals taught the first-graders about dogs.
First-graders at , winding down their study of the great realm of mammals, welcomed an educator from the Potter League who came to discuss perhaps the most familiar of them all, the dog.
The class began with the book The Great Gracie Chase, which is about a family pooch who got out of her yard and ran around the neighborhood in hot pursuit. The topic of conversation: dog common sense.
The students also received advice about how to approach an unfamiliar canine: always ask if it’s OK to pat, and then offer the back of the hand for the dog to sniff. And then pat its back—never its face.

Students, who were hanging on every word, also were given guidelines about how to help a lost dog or cat. “The Potter League,” explained the visitor, “is the 'lost and found' for pets.”
