The Redwood Children’s Library and Athenaeum Summer Programs are devoted to inspiring children and young teens to find happiness and fulfillment in literacy, writing and the arts.

Little Writers: Half-Day Camps for Beginner Readers
The Redwood Children’s Library and Athenaeum will offer two, week-long summer programs for early elementary school students; Little Writers: Book Building, at the beginning of the summer, and Little Writers: Telling Stories, at the end of the summer. Both programs offer a choice of either an afternoon session, or a morning session. Little Writers include instruction from an educator who is trained and experienced in early literacy and child care, and who is First Aid and CPR Certified. We follow all protocols for best practices as defined by the American Camp Association.

Experience, Imagine, Share: Three Day Creative Writing Workshops

Too often we forget that the process of writing is shaped like an iceberg, and that the act of forming words into sentences and composing paragraphs is but the very tip. Beneath the water, out of sight, lies a vast base of experience and ideas.

At the RCLA Three Day Creative Writing Workshops, middle school students and young teens are encouraged to embrace this base by looking at the writing process in three parts; experience, imagination and sharing. Time is split proportionately between these three. About one third of each workshop is spent reading and writing. The rest of the time is given to the practical experience of viewing the world through the eyes of a storyteller; learning to find the adventure in every day.
Middle school students and young teens are invited to explore the world through the eyes of a storyteller.
Workshops run W-F, 9am-3pm. Parent/family involvement is encouraged on the first morning and the last afternoon. Students must pack a lunch and snacks.
