Thompson Middle School Principal Resigns

Principal Eric Thomas handed in his resignation last week and will not return as principal next year, school officials said. His resignation is effective June 31.

Superintendent John Ambrogi said Thomas did not give a reason for his resignation and commended his 16 years of service within the school department.

“His excellence. . .will be missed,” Ambrogi said.

Ambrogi said Thomas will continue to teach in Newport schools, but his position has been undecided.

The school department has not found a replacement yet, and will be placing an ad “aggressively seeking” a new principal.

Thomas could not be reached for comment.
