Toddler Boy Dead, Teen Facing Charges In Newport
A two-month-old was found unresponsive at the Festival Field Housing Development Thursday night, police said.
NEWPORT, RI — A two-month-old boy is dead after being found unresponsive at the Festival Field Housing Development in Newport Thursday night, according to the Newport Police Department.
"While Newport Fire Department personnel were performing life-saving measures on the 2-month-old child, a large unruly crowd began to form where a physical altercation broke out," officials said. "While Newport Police Department officers attempted to break up the altercation, one officer was punched in the face."
A 17-year-old was taken into custody on felony delinquent charges which require an arraignment in family court, police said.

"This is an ongoing investigation and we do not have any further information at this time," police added.
Festival Field is a 6-building, 204-unit apartment complex located on Girard Avenue in Newport.
