You know who you are.  So-called "professionals" who spill your every waking thought onto your Facebook wall, Twitter feed, etc.  Stop! As I like to tell people: Treat social media like Thanksgiving.  No politics, no religion, keep the drinking to a minimum, and don't air your dirty laundry.
Its fine to be passionate about certain subjects (who isn't?). But unless you are in journalism or political media,  your customers don't really care about your positions on volatile issues.  In fact, you will likely offend and alienate 50% of them.       Â
I am always amazed to see flame throwing posts by those who are seeking people's business.  Here's a secret:  You are NEVER going to change the entrenched views of others with a post or a tweet.  So why bother? While you may feel momentary satisfaction, you have not offered anything of real value. Likewise with your troubles.  Problems are like opinions. We all got 'em.Â
What potential customers care about are the products you offer, the services you provide, and the expertise you can share.  Make people excited for your next post.  Teach them something, give them something to ponder, show them something they have never seen, offer them something, ask for feedback, give them a (positive) glimpse into your life. In other words, ADD something to their day that they are happy to have encountered. Â
Save the whining, grumbling and political pontification.  Those are the rules for Thanksgiving at my house. If only people treated social media the same way.
