Water Upgrades Tuesday: City
The City does not expect a service interruption, but asks customers not to put extra demand on the system on Tuesday.

NEWPORT, RI—Tuesday might be a good day to keep a little bottled water on hand. The City of Newport is making "infrastructure improvements" to the drinking water system. The work means the Station 1 Water Treatment plant at 100 Bliss Mine Road will be shut down starting at 8 a.m. The jobs is supposed to last about eight hours. During that time, customers' water will be coming from the Lawton Valley Water Treatment plant in Portsmouth.
"The Newport Water Division does not anticipate any problems with water service to all our customers during the construction of the water system improvements on September 12th," the City said. "We do request our customers, if possible, to refrain from any work on September 12th that may produce a high water demand. We have also notified our wholesale customers, Portsmouth Water & Fire District and Naval Station Newport of the construction on September 12th."
