Newport Bridge Work To Resume May 12
Deck work on the Newport bridge is set to start up again on Sunday, May 12.
NEWPORT, RI — Road work is set to resume on the Newport Pell Bridge starting on Sunday, May 12. The multi-step project started in 2017. The first phase of this year's construction is set to run through early August.
According to the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority, Phase One will includes single-lane closures on the bridge during non-peak hours. Crews will install permanent signs that in the future will show drivers which lanes are open and closed, as well as perform routine maintenance and repair the expansion joint header on the deck of the bridge.
Work will begin on Phase Two in early August, when crews will resume work on the bridge deck. Previous construction in 2017 focused on repairing the eastbound deck, when approximately 1,000 feet of the 11,247-foot bridge deck was replaced. More information on Phase Two will be released later this summer.
